Meat. (لحم) Laham.

Names
1. In Hadees it is called as Laham (لحم).
2. In Hindi & Urdu it is called as Gosh.
3. In English it is called as Meat or Flesh.
4. Shoulder meat & Foreleg is called as Zar’a (الذرع) in Hadees.
5. Back meat is called as Zahr (الظهر) in Hadees.
6. Dried meat is called as Qadid (القديد) in Hadees.

Introduction

Meat has been a big part of eatables among human since many years, & is eaten worldwide. Human eat various types meat, got from various animals & birds, but we should not eat all types of animals or birds.

Islamic Laws regarding meat

According to Quran

The Quran forbids meat from animals that die of themselves, blood, the meat of swine (porcine animals, pigs), flowing blood, neck strangulated, beaten till death, dead due to fall from height, accidental death, death & eaten by a wild animal, Animal slaughter un-Islamic ally and animals dedicated to other than Allah (either undedicated or dedicated to idols) which are Haraam & opposed to Halal

According to Hadees

In Hadees, following meats are not allowed to be eaten: –

1. Animals feeding dirty things, their Meat & Milk both are not allowed to eat or drink.
2. Pet Donkey, Pig, Cat, frog, dog, Crow, wild animals (fox, wolf & etc) meats are not allowed to eat.
3. Animals who die, due to drowning & sea animals, which die in the sea and their body floats.
4. We are not allowed to cut any body part of an animal, while it is alive & eaten.
5. Animals & bird which hunt with their claws their meat is not allowed.
6. Cow meat in not liked to be eaten.
7. Etc.

Meat (لحم) the top class food

1. Hazrat Abu Darda رضي الله عنه says that Rasool Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said “At the top (سيد طعام) among all eatables of Earth & Jannah is Laham (لحم) (Meat). : Reference Ibn Ma-jah: 3430; Book no. 29; In English volume no. 4 Book 29, Hadees no 3305.

Meat (لحم) liked by Rasool Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم

2. Hazrat Abu Darda رضي الله عنه says that, whenever Rasool Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was called for a Feast to eat Laham (لحم) (Meat), he accepted it, & whenever meat was sent He صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم accepted it. : Reference Ibn Ma-jah: 3431; Book no. 29; In English volume no. 4 Book 29, Hadees no 3306.

Prohibited to eat or drink milk of animals which eat dirty stuffs

3. Narrated Abdullah Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه  that Nabi صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم prohibited eating the animal meat which feeds on filth and drinking its milk. : Reference Abu Dawud: 3785; Book no. 28; In English Book no. 27; Hadees no. 3776.

Swine & dead meat prohibited

4. Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said,  Allah (has) forbade wine and the price paid for it, and forbade dead meat and the price paid for it, and forbade swine and the price paid for it. : Reference Abu Dawud: 3485; Book no. 24; In English Book no. 23; Hadees no. 3478.

Donkey prohibited

5. Narrated Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه that Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم  prohibited the eating of donkey’s meat. : Reference Bukhari: 5522; Book no. 72; In English volume no. 7; Book no. 67; Hadees no. 431.

Prohibited meat of animals who have fangs

6. Narrated Abu Tha`laba رضي الله عنه that Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade the eating of the meat of beasts having fangs. : Reference Bukhari: 5530; Book no. 72; In English volume no. 7; Book no. 67; Hadees no. 438.  (Please refer the next lesson Prohibited eatables & drinks).

Meat of Shoulder or fore leg (Al-Zaraa’a)               
7. Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه says that one day, Laham (لحم) (Meat) of shoulder (الذرع) (Al-Zaraa’a) (of Goat) was sent for Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم because Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم liked it, & Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ate it by cutting & pulling the cooked meat with his (respected) teeth.  : Reference Tirmizi: 1837; Book No. 25, Hadees No. 53; In English volume no.3 Book 23, Hadees no 1837.
8. Narrated A’isha رضي الله عنها said “The foreleg (shoulder) (الذِّرَاعُ) was not the part of the meat that the Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم liked most, but He  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم would not get meat (every time) but (got) occasionally. So it would be hastened to him because it cooks quickly”. : Reference Tirmizi: 1838; Book No. 25; In English volume no.3 Book 23, Hadees no 1838.

Laham (لحم) (Meat) of back (Al-Zahr) (الظهر), the best: –
9. Hazrat Abdullah Bin Jaffar Ibn Zubair رضي الله عنه says that, he slaughtered  a camel for people (to eat) & said, people were cutting Al-Zahr (الظهر) ( meat of back)  (of the Camel) for Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم because Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم  liked it & Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم use to say “The best part of the meat is Al-Zahr (الظهر) (back meat). : Reference Ibn Ma-jah: 3433; Book no. 29; In English volume no. 4 Book 29, Hadees no 3308.
10. Hazrat Abdul Bin Jafar رضي الله عنه says that Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said “The best part of meat (لحم) is of back (Al-Zahr) (الظهر) (To eat). : Reference Shamaa’il Muhammadiyah; Book no. 26; Hadees no. 171; In English; Book no.25; Hadees no. 162.

Roasted Laham (Meat), Wazoo & Salah (Namaz)
11. Hazrat Abdullah Bin Al-Haris Al-Jaz’a Al-Zabidi رضي الله عنه says that, we ate roasted meat with Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم & after eating Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم cleaned his (respected) hands with a stone (because they did not had hand kerchief) & offered Salah (Namaz) without doing Wazoo. : Reference Ibn Ma-jah: 3436; Book no. 29; In English volume no. 4 Book 29, Hadees no 3311. (Means Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was in Wazoo).
12. Hazrat Amr Bin Ummiyah رضي الله عنه says that he saw Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم having roasted shoulder meat (الذرع) of a goat in His (respected) hand & Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was cutting & eating the roasted meat, since than Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was called for Salah (namaz), Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم  kept the meat & knife & stoop up & offered Salah (Namaz) without doing Wazoo. : Reference Bukhari: 5408: Book no. 70; In English volume no. 7; Book no. 65; Hadees no 319. (Means Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was in Wazoo).
13. Hazrat Mughirah Bin Shabah رضي الله عنه  says that “One night I was guest of Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم specially offered roasted leg meat & Himself cut the meat with knife & use to give me.  : Reference Tirmizi: 1829; Book No. 25, In English volume no.3 Book 23, Hadees no 1829.
14. Hazrat Umme Salma رضي الله عنها says that she gave to Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم roasted front leg of a goat to which Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ate & than offered Salah (Namaz) without doing Wazoo. .  : Reference Tirmizi: 1829; Book No. 25; In English volume no.3 Book 23, Hadees no 1829. (Means Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was in Wazoo).
15. Hazrat Abdullah Bin Al-Hars رضي الله عنه  says that we ate roasted meat with Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم in Masjid. : Reference Shamaa’il Muhammadiyah; Book no. 26; Hadees no. 165; In English; Book no. 25; Hadees no. 156.

Salah, Wazoo & Laham (meat)    
16. Hazrat Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه  says that “Once Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم took out a piece of meat from a cooking vessel which was kept for cooking, ate it & went to offer Salah without doing Wazoo. : Reference Bukhari: 5405; Book no. 70; In English volume no. 7; Book no. 65; Hadees no 316. (Means Nabi  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم were in Wazoo).

About Qadid (القديد) (dried Meat)    
17. Hazrat Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه says that, one person came to Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم & due to honor & respect, his body was vibrating (tremors), seeing this, Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said, Iam not a King, I am Son of a (poor) Lady, who used Qadid (القديد). : Reference Ibn Ma-jah: 3437; Book no. 29; In English volume no. 4 Book 29, Hadees no 3312.
Qadid (القديد) is dried meat, means salt is applied to meat & kept for drying, so that they can use it, whenever necessary, poor people of that time use to eat it.

About Paya (Cannon Bone)      
18. Hazrat A’isha رضي الله عنها says that, we use to keep separate the Paya (Cannon bones) of Qurbani animals for Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم because Rasool Allah  صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم would eat them 15th days after Qurbani. : Reference Ibn Ma-jah: 3438; Book no. 29; In English volume no. 4 Book 29, Hadees no 3313.
